GEA SCHOOLS HR PRACTITIONERS

A two day intensive seminar has been held under the auspices of the Ghana Employers' Association (GEA) for Human Resources Practitioners at the Airport West Hotel, Accra.
 
The theme for the seminar was "Emerging Issues From The National Labour Commission & The Labour Laws".
 
Participants were drawn from the Cocoa Industry, the Mining Sector, the Media, Utility Sector, Hospitality Industry as well as the Banking Sector.
 
Cocoa Marketing Company was represented by Justina Osei-Wusu, Emmanuella Segbawu, Sampson Amoako and Joseph Obeng Yeboah.
 
Opening the seminar, the Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Wages & Salaries Commission, who was also a resource person, Dr. Edward Kwapong revealed  that the seminar was organised" to bring participants up to speed with some of the key issues emerging from the National Labour Commission as well as the provisions of the Labour Act, 2003 (Ac t651) ".
 
Participants were schooled to understand and appreciate basic rules of employment under the various labour legislations in Ghana.
 
Additionally, participants were educated to understand the most relevant aspects of the laws with emphasis on employment protection,general conditions of employment, reduction of the number of cases sent to the National Labour Commission and identification of various challenges associated with the implementation of the labour laws.
 
Such issues as Collective Bargaining,Freedom of Association, Labour Disputes/ Settlements, Management Functions and Termination of Appointment contract were also discussed.
 
Closing the seminar, Mr, Ofosu Asamoah, a Legal Practitioner, a resource person as well as the Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission, advised participants thus "observe procedures in all your practices and you will be insulated from needless troubles.
